Thought for Tuesday 25th January
John 2:6-9 (edited)
“...six stone water jars… each holding from eighty to a hundred and twenty litres. Jesus said to the servants, ‘Fill the jars with water’... Then he told them, ‘Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet… and [he] tasted the water that had been turned into wine. ”
It’s an absurd quantity of wine - enough for hundreds of people - but John clearly doesn’t condone excess or drunkenness. Rather, it reflects the over-abundance of God. Prophets such as Amos, Joel and Isaiah linked such lavish provision with the coming of the Messiah.
Reflection: Give thanks that when we expect “enough,” God so often provides plenty.
